Spur 0 - Märklin » Early detailed coaches

Dear collector friends,
I recently bought these very nice coaches, gauge 0, my first items this size... but since they were in such good condition I did not resist!
I know very little of gauge 0, I think these items are from around 1904, opening doors and interior details, a surprise to me for such a small coaches.
Now I need to find a matching loco, in similar condition. Can anyone help recommending a suitable model?
I also would like to find some tracks to make a simple oval a run the train when a loco is found. And off course some figures to put in the coaches. Can anyone give some advice about tracks and figures from around 1904?

Congratulations on the coaches - they are great and rather early!

Figures like this could work well for your coaches. They are more commonly from the 20s and 30s but the earlier ones are really hard to find - and bigger and more common for Gauge 1:

Ironically Gauge O is much more expensive than Gauge 1 so finding a loco might be difficult. A 1020 loco is a classic - like the AD 1020. I'll see if I can find some examples for you.

"Willkommen bei den Erwachsenen" heißt es nicht selten aus Offenbach, wenn ein 00/H0 Sammler erstmals die gläserne Decke zu den großen Spurweiten durchbricht.

Die Abteilwagen 1806 lassen sich in dieser späten Form ab 1904 nachweisen. Im Jahre 1909 erhalten sie die Fixkupplung und bleiben bis 1916 (nicht 1914) im Programm, der Postwagen 1802 sogar noch bis 1924 (nicht 1919).

Zu diesen aufwändigen Wagen passen die kleineren Lokomotiven in der besseren "feinen Ausstattung" aus der Zeit.

Ja, so eine Lok könnte passen (eventuell ist sie etwas zu alt), aber diese angebotene Lok hat Mängel. Der Tender hat vier falsche Räder und ist zudem überlackiert. Bei der Lok kann man Überlackierungen im Moment nicht erkennen, aber ein Zylinder ist erneuert worden und die Kupplung Lok - Tender dürfte so nicht richtig sein.

grundsätzlich gilt: Erlaubt ist, was gefällt.

Die 1020 B gab es nur bis 1902. Sie passt gut zu einfacheren Wagen.

Wie schon in #3 geschrieben: Manuels Wagen sind mit ihren "Türen zum Oeffnen" sowie der Inneneinrichtung "mit Publikum" die am besten ausgestatteten dieser Bauform. Hier darf auch die Lokomotive "in feiner Ausstattung" sein.

Der selbe Internet- Anbieter hat mit der R 1020 auch eine der Maschinen im Angebot, mit der solche Wagen in Startpackungen verkauft worden sind (ebay Nr. 293730933468).

Again many thanks for your input, most helpful.
I had seen the R 1020 on eBay, it really seems it will look great with my cars, and now that I know that it was sold in sets with my cars, that is the one I want!
The loco on sale is however not as good condition as my coaches, but if someone can tell me it is in original condition (I have seen that the screws on the rods are most probably not original...) and not repainted, I would buy this one that would do until I find a better one. What do you think?
I also would like some advice on the differences in the tracks during time, I would like to find tracks from the same date of the train?.

Die angebotene Lok ist eigentlich in einem guten Zustand. Die beiden Schrauben auf den Dampfdomen sind original so ausgeführt.

Ich würde diese Lok kaufen.

Gleise: In Spur 0 sind die nicht einfach zu finden. Es sind die Gleise mit den flachen Schwellen und zeitgerecht zu deinem Zug diejenigen, die einen in sich gebogenen Gleisverbindungsdraht haben.

As mentioned, beware of repainting, just as in 00/HO models it's probably even more common with the larger gauge items.

This item for instance is partially or fully repainted, you can see it in Picture 3:

The paint on early items was thick, with a primer coat then a top coat. When the paint chips the restorer often just paints over it, without primer so there are differences in paint levels. This is clearly seen on this car.

Manuel, eine Lok, die besser erhalten ist, findet man im Prinzip selten. Aber gut, zufällig wird irgendwann so eine noch besser erhaltene Lok bei einem Auktionshaus angeboten, die fast wie neu ist. Aber die wird dann entsprechend teuer werden.
Diese hier gezeigte Lok ist schon in einem guten Zustand. Ich denke, du wirst zufrieden sein.

Stimmt, aber deine Lok ist ja auch noch nicht so alt wie die andere (siehe Gestänge).

In the meantime l received vols 1 and 2 of the books on Märklin with the reprint of the early catalogues.
I realized that the very early tracks that l am looking for were soon substituted in 1907 by new ones, that probably are easier to find, and also be contemporary of my new train? Is this correct or should l go on searching for the very first shown by Udo?
I also need a key to wind the motor, can someone tell me the correct size please?

I think those keys would work. For almost all keys I have, they are all the same size. The early keys did not have a Marklin logo on them. Here's a much later one (1920s ?) but it has the Marklin logo on it which is nice:

I've seen some keys that look like this one come originally with some early clockwork Marklin:

I think 4mm is the best size, but 3.5mm could work too...
