I've recently bought a little mystery bell, It appeared on Trainz alongside a handful of american, french, and german semaphores and signals. I bought it and haven't yet been able to identify it. It's hand painted and soldered, with a tin base and brass inner workings. Two green solenoids operate the dinger, which can be adjusted to account for different voltages. It looks like nothing I've seen before, but it works like a charm. Who made this little beast?

So do I... It seems that's a self made item, using basically a Märklin chassis.
By the way: where have your pictures gone... Best wishes Wolfgang
I don't know, it looks so different to all Marklin bells I've seen. It's quite fatter, and the base is stamped steel unlike the cast bases of all Marklin bells I've seen. It's Marklin-like, but not Marklin. Also I love those repro Marklin bells, I would love to see the complete setup some time. I love early Marklin but as an American finding photos of all the interesting stuff is hard Here are the images again! With some better links. I noticed that the posts are very similar, nearly identical, to those on a 1920s transformer I own.

Gavin: I can help: you can see the Märklin original cardbox (lid is unfortunately missing), with six telegraph poles, all in mint condition, about 1895. (Pictures sponsored by a collecting friend)
